The number of Americans using health and fitness apps on their smartphones increased 27.2% in 2020. The number jumped from 68.7 million people to 87.4 million.

Although COVID-19 was the reason for this increase, there has been a steady upward trend of people using apps instead of traditional gyms. They find it easier to fit a quick app workout into a busy schedule of work and family responsibilities.

Apple Fitness Plus was released in December 2020 and will likely increase the number of people using an app at home. Keep reading below to learn more about why you should consider using this app with your Apple Watch.

We’ll discuss what the app does, what it offers to users, how it integrates with your current technology, and how to get started.

What Is Apple Fitness Plus?

The Apple Fitness+ is one of the best fitness apps on the market for working out at home.

Home workouts can be challenging. Many fitness enthusiasts have been using the Apple Watch for years to track steps or determine active heart rate. But, Apple Fitness+ is now changing the game.

This new fitness app offers a catalog of workouts led by expert trainers that can be accessed through an Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. Although the app can be accessed on any Apple product, it’s recommended to be used with the Apple Watch in order to track your individual progress.

More people than ever are trying to learn how to work out at home. Technology has made it easier and more convenient to get a good workout without having to go to a gym or leave the house. The COVID-19 pandemic made working out at home a necessity last year.

The question is whether people will return to the gym when it’s safe? One fitness survey found that nine in 10 Americans will continue exercising at home into the future.

Apple Fitness Offers More Home Workouts

As we stated above, Apple Fitness+ gives you access to a catalog of workouts. Twenty-six workouts have been added in categories such as cycling, strength training, yoga, HIIT, core, dance, treadmill, and more.  There are a total of 293 individual workouts to choose from.

The workouts available on Apple Fitness+ are customizable for any level of fitness from beginner to advanced. They can also be set to last anywhere from five to 45 minutes.

Users of the app also have the ability to choose their favorite trainer from a list, as well as the type of music they want to hear while exercising (for example, Chill Vibes, Country, Rock, Throwback, or Hip Hop).

Fitness+ users often wonder if any equipment is needed to do their workouts? There are training options for people with or without equipment at home. Most commonly, people using the app may need dumbbells, a yoga mat, a stationary bike, a rowing machine, or a treadmill.

Motivation is everything in a good workout. Apple added a feature called the Burn Bar. This is a pink line with the graphic of a person on it.

Using your personal fitness data, the Burn Bar shows how you compare to average performance. Most people will want to surpass the average.

This New Fitness App Integrates With Your Apple Watch

The app is available for all but is specially-designed for Apple Watch users.

By using the watch, your personal metrics will be uploaded and all workouts will be based on your developmental range. No more having to guess about how high your heart rate should be or how many calories to consume each day.

Your watch will keep track of total time, heart rate, calories burned, and whether or not you’re performing above average on a workout. The app will also slowly ramp up the difficulty of your home workouts as you get better. It’s like having a professional trainer to keep you consistent with workouts.

Users should also know that all personal fitness data is private and nothing is stored in your Apple ID. With this app, you can expect the same level of security available in all Apple products.

One of the most popular new features of the Fitness+ app is “Time to Walk.” This feature encourages people to walk while listening to audio commentary from celebrities like Dolly Parton or NBA star Draymond Green. Each of the episodes was recorded while the celebrity was walking.

How To Get Started With the Apple Fitness App

Are you ready to start using the Apple Fitness+ app? If so, you can get it for $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year. Apple is now letting users try out their first month free. And anyone who buys an Apple Watch is getting three months free!

A premier plan is also available to allow up to five family members on the same account.

Apple Watch owners will find that the Fitness+ app automatically appears as the center tab in the Fitness app on your iPhone. Otherwise, people using other Apple products can download Fitness+ in the App Store.

The app is currently available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. More countries will likely be added in the future.

In order to use the Fitness+ app, devices need to have the following required software: iOS 14.3, watchOS 7.2, iPadOS 14.3, and tvOS 14.3. Make sure to update your system before trying to download the app.

Upgrade Your Home Workouts in 2021

If you really enjoyed working out from home this past year, then you should seriously consider upgrading your workouts with Apple Fitness Plus.

You’ll have access to nearly 300 different workouts that can be customized according to ability and timeframe. On top of that, the app’s algorithm will begin to turn up the difficulty as you perform better. It’ll also start making workout recommendations for you.
