By Dr. Sophia Edwards-Bennett
It’s been a long and arduous year…
Laced with anguish, incomprehensible loss….and wailing tears…
Raining doubts ….and droughts of hope …
Dreading tomorrow, our mournful sorrows… to elope…
We’ve felt dismayed, downtrodden and at times insane …
As vitriol fueled by mistrust… and racial disdain…
Scarred our hearts ….with incessant pain ….
And while Covid-19 yet continues its reign ..
We share weeping willows of each other’s pain…
Sowing seeds of love with reciprocal gain …
We grieve our losses… cherish and savor all we retain…
Seeking support and sage counsel to cope …
We hold on….grasping to ….every morsel of hope…
You may ask …why harbor even a mustard seed of faith?
The answer, though profound, I’ll simply state…
You see….the human spirit, oppressed by the darkest freight…
Is relentless….unscathed …it refuses to abate..
So even in trials of suffocating sorrow …
We dare to dream …for a better tomorrow …
Because each day we live, and every breath we take ..
Reminds us all …that of this life we still partake …
And so it is ….with full embrace…
With hearts wide open…arms raised in veneration and praise…
Multi-generations… endorse His mercy… and His sustaining grace…
So this Thanksgiving…. even while in solitude…
Let’s pledge with sincerity…..forsaking all platitudes…
In resonant accordance….with renewed spirits…. and mindful re-attitudes…
To chant a global anthem… of resounding GRATITUDE
